OPTIMISM MUST REMAIN

OPTIMISM MUST REMAIN

Staying in the race….Use this time wisely

We all know how difficult times have been for the oil and gas sector recently and without trying to preach to the local business community, optimism must remain.

Lifting Equipment Rental is celebrating 25 years in business this year and it has certainly not been plain sailing, yet we remain to tell the tale.

We saw the first price crash which came in the mid-1980’s, the second at the onset of the Great Recession in 2008 when oil prices fell from over $100 a barrel to below $40 and the third which saw a rapid decline which began around September 2014. The barrel price is still relatively low but gladly slowly on the incline.

Now, more than ever, is a time for local suppliers to come together to offer as cost-effective options as possible as well as flexibility and competitive terms. To be considered as a local supplier, and remain in the race, we need to be as lean as possible without being detrimental to our own business.

It’s that support and help we can offer others that will see us prosper once again. I have personally been in the industry for 45 years and know that being flexible with our client base has served us well and that this has been met with a certain loyalty.

We have also chosen to show our commitment to the industry, not by shirking away and hoping everything comes right, but by continuing to invest in everything from our plant, to our accreditations to engaging in marketing. At a quieter time it allows you to take stock of the business and put more actions in place so you have the optimal efficient business model when we do turn the proverbial corner!

My message to anyone who wants to listen is use this time wisely, we could all mope around….bury our heads in the sand….want to hibernate and then emerge when everything is better but use this time to plan, better your processes, market your business and help your clients as much as you can. You will reap the rewards for your efforts.

As we come towards the end of another year, and a tough one at that, we wish every local business a bigger, brighter 2017.
