FORMARTINE UNITED & LER JOIN FORCES TO INVEST IN LOCAL JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS

John Aitken, Owner at Lifting Equipment Rental has joined forces with local coach Michael Brown to invest in the footballing careers of Formartine United Youth Academy’s 2003 squad.

After a tough start to 2017, where the squad consisted of just three players, Michael and three other coaches, Mike Cordiner, Neil Simpson and Doug Parker, came on board in June to develop the team. They quickly spotted potential, picking up players in the right age group and nurturing them to a position where the team became competitive within the league.

With no kit to play in, Mr Aitken quickly volunteered investment into the team of seventeen, 13 and 14-year-old players, in which his grandson plays, equipping them with a brand-new home kit, away kit, tracksuit tops, and rain jackets, as well coaches’ jackets and full training kits for everyone.

Mr Brown says: “After a challenging start to the season, the squad is now in a fantastic position where they continue to make real progress. They’re a great bunch of lads and it is a pleasure training them twice a week and seeing them compete every Sunday. We hope to see many of these players develop and make the transition from juvenile football to the highland league, so there really is great talent within the squad.

“The only disappointment was that they had no real kit to speak of and in this tough economic climate, it was a big ask to find a sponsor. However, that’s where John came in and we couldn’t be more grateful. It has given the boys a real boost and it really makes a difference to see the whole squad turn up in the same attire. John really has gone above and beyond to support us.”

Mr Aitken adds: “The coaches and players have really fought against the odds to transform themselves into such a credible and talented team in such a short time. It really struck me that they deserved some support where it was due, so it seemed only natural to help out where I could and make the investment in their kit.”

Formartine United Youth Academy’s 2003 squad is currently sitting 8th in their league.
