Are you thinking about decommissioning projects for the later stages of 2018 onwards? It might be time to assess, understand you project needs, devise a plan and ensure the correct suppliers/equipment are in place for when the time comes.
With
estimates that 79 platforms will be decommissioned on the UK Continental Shelf
by 2024* there is certainly work to be done and decommissioning will be an
exciting business environment over the next few years.
How planning ahead will benefit:
· A key part of the process – Decommissioning should be thought of as
another part of the lifecycle process and therefore should be planned for in
the late life phase.
· Efficiency – Planning in good time ensures that decommissioning is
carried out as efficiently as possible.
· Safety – when decommissioning does come into play, the timely
pre-planning ensures it is done safely, cost effectively and that
considerations of the environment have been taken into account.
· Supply chain - We have a big role
to play here by ensuring that we share our expertise, services and technology
to ensure efficiency and being able to reduce project costs. It is essential
that operators partner with us to ensure we are working together on a common
goal.
The Oil &
Gas Authority published its UKCS decommissioning cost estimate in June this
year of £59 billion to decommission everything in the UKCS. It then set a
target to reduce these costs by greater than 35%; giving a new target of less
than £39 billion.
Collaboration
is key to support this reduced target and the supply chain is the link which
can pass on these savings via expertise and best technology for the project.
